It's about a soldier torn between his morals and his obligation to his country..I would guess it's in reference to the first war in Iraq considering the date the album was released and the reference to the desert sand mound a burial ground...he wants to know when the time comes to kill is he a partner in crime (murder)..he's ready to give his life for his country and he's asking God to forgive him for what he might have to do.
