I don't need to fall at your feet
Just 'cause you cut me to the bone
And I won't miss the way that you kiss me
We were never carved in stone
If I don't listen to the talk of the town
Then maybe I can fool myself..

I'll get over you.. I know I will
I'll pretend my ship's not sinking
And I'll tell myself I'm over you
'cause I'm the king of wishful thinking
I am the king of wishful thinking

I refuse to give in to my blues
That's not how it's going to be
And I deny the tears in my eyes
I don't want to let you see.. no
That you have made a hole in my heart
And now I've got to fool myself..

I'll get over you.. I know I will
I'll pretend my ship's not sinking
And I'll tell myself I'm over you
'cause I'm the king of wishful thinking..
I'll get over you.. I know I will
I'll pretend my ship's not sinking
And I'll tell myself I'm over you
'cause I'm the king of wishful thinking

I will never, never she'd a tear for you
I'll get over you

If I don't listen to the talk of the town
Then maybe I can fool myself..

I'll get over you.. I know I will
I'll pretend my ship's not sinking
And I'll tell myself I'm over you
'cause I'm the king of wishful thinking
I'm the king of wishful thinking
I'll get over you.. I know I will
You made a hole in my heart
But I won't she'd a tear for you
I'll be the king of wishful thinking
I'll get over you..
I'll pretend my heart's still beating
'cause I've got no more tears for you
I'm the king of wishful thinking..
I'll get over you.. I know I will
You made a hole in my heart
And I'll tell myself I'm over you
'cause I'm the king of wishful thinking

    G) repetition- “i’ll get over you”
the phrase, “i’ll get over you” is repeated eight times throughout the song. The repetition is used to emphasize the determination of the writer to overcome his feelings, as well as convey the goal of the man in the song to the listener.

    H) metaphor- “i’ll pretend my ships not sinking”
throughout the song the ship represents the man’s spirit. A sinking ship is a disaster, and the writer tries to convey to the listener that his spirit is headed towards a bad place, otherwise known as depression. The metaphor emphasizes the severity, and unstableness of his state of mind.

    I) overstatement- “you made a hole in my heart”
the overstatement of turning a broken heart into a hole in the heart emphasizes the writer’s pain for the listener. The exaggeration reiterates the pain he feels by comparing the physiological pain to physical pain.

    J) allusion- “we were never carved in stone”
carved in stone is an illusion to the biblical tablets, which held the ten commandments. It is a sarcastic line telling the readers about the inadequacies about the man’s ex, it implies she doesn’t follow any set of rules unless they are “carved in stone”. The writer is letting the audience know that the relationship failed because of the girl, and her flaws, not the man.
