It's not a break-up song. This song is about a person that needs to leave to fulfill theirself; there's something he has to go find, with or without the other person. He says "and I promise I'll be waiting for you", a sign that the other person will come when they're ready.
One of the hardest songs on the album... to me, its a break up song. Describing how you feel when you leave a relationship that one has invested many years, blood sweat and tears.
