[Spoken intro]
This is a song about a couple of adult people who have spent, oh, quite a long time
together, till one day
one of 'em gets restless and decides to leave. Whether it's the man or woman who left is unimportant.
It's a breakup.
It's a lovely marriage of words and music, written by Stephen Sondheim.
Isn't it rich? Are we a pair?
Me here at last on the ground and you in mid-air
Send in the clowns [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/f/frank_sinatra/send_in_the_clowns.html ]
Isn't it bliss? Don't you approve?
One who keeps tearing around and one who can't move
But where are the clowns? Send in the clowns
Just when I stopped opening doors
Finally finding the one that I wanted was yours
Making my entrance again with my usual flair
Sure of my lines
Nobody's there
Don't you love a farce? My fault, I fear
I thought that you'd want what I want, sorry my dear
But where are the clowns? Send in the clowns
Don't bother they're here
Isn't it rich? Isn't it queer?
Losing my timing this late in my career
But where are the clowns? Send in the clowns
Well, maybe next year
Perhaps its about a gigolo, amputation of testicle. There ought to be clowns... Well maybe next year.

I heard it and thought about a relationship... The one me and my brother no longer have because he has passed, and i am the one asking to send in the clowns because once the clowns show in my eyes the cruel joke of my brothers passing would be over and he would be here again... But the clowns didnt come, maybe they'll come when his anniversary passes next year...

The clowns represent the circus. And he is suggesting that all that is needed is to send in the clowns to make the three ring circus his life has become. Anyone that has gone through that kind of break knows. Eventual you become the clowns with all teh silly fighting and pickering (nevermind they are here)

It says it in the opening. The meaning is pretty clear.

I think this song is about bestfriends. And the guy or girl doesn't feel the same way about him or her... The connection to this story is making your own life and singing it as if it was just your life story!

Its reminiscing the love and passion shared by two lovers. Now that they gave up and had a taste of the freedom without having each other anymore, then the memories linger...

Send in the clowns is about two people looking for love and taking the one they're with for granted. An epiphany realizing too late, when one takes a break, that what they were looking for their whole lives they already had with each other. The clowns are memories of the laughs and the life they shared, that they won't be able to share together again.

These lyrics could describe an organization that lacks leadership, direction, purpose and for that matter could be run by any fool.
