At twenty years of age I'm still looking for a dream
A war's already waged for my destiny
But You've already won the battle
And You've got great plans for me
Though I can't always see

Cause I got a couple dents in my fender
Got a couple rips in my jeans
Try to fit the pieces together
But perfection is my enemy
On my own I'm so clumsy
But on Your shoulders I can see
I'm free to be me

When I was just a girl I thought I had it figured out
See my life would turn out right, and I'd make it here somehow
But things don't always come that easy
And sometimes I would doubt, oh...

Cause I got a couple dents in my fender
Got a couple rips in my jeans
Try to fit the pieces together
But perfection is my enemy
On my own I'm so clumsy
But on Your shoulders I can see
I'm free to be me
And you're free to be you

Sometimes I believe that I can do anything
Yet other times I think I've got nothing good to bring
But You look at my heart and You tell me
That I've got all You seek, oh
And it's easy to believe
Even though

Oh, I got a couple dents in my fender
Got a couple rips in my jeans
Try to fit the pieces together
But perfection is my enemy
On my own I'm so clumsy
But on Your shoulders I can see

I got a couple dents in my fender
Got a couple rips in my jeans
Try to fit the pieces together
But perfection is my enemy
On my own I'm so clumsy
But on Your shoulders I can see
I'm free to be me
And you're free to be you

This is by far her best song from My Paper Heart. And my favorite! This is a great song.

You may look at yourself and think of all these things that are wrong with you, but Jesus looks at you and see's a beatiful person. He loves us no matter if we've got dents in our fenders and rips in my jeans.

5 out of 5, Francesca! I love it so much. It's one of the best christian pop songs ever. You've got a great future ahead of you.

(For some reason she reminds me of Sara Bareilles.)

THIS SONG IS SO COOL, I WOULD LOVE TO MEET FRANCESCA. SHE SOUNDS LIKE SHE WOULD BE REALLY COOL, I STILL HAVE A FEW DENTS IN MY FENDER AND SOME RIPPS IN MY JEANS, BUT THAT IS OK B/C WITH JESUS I AM FREE TO BE ME NO MATTER WHAT I LOOK LIKE ON THE OUTSIDE IT'S WHAT'S ON THE INSIDE THAT COUNTS ANYWAY.

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things (1 Corinthians 13:11, KJV). (At twenty years of age), I'm not going to draw my own spirituality from the music of an immature or inexperienced child because they make music defined as the genre of "Christian". If anyone else wants to, I suppose "you are free to. .. .". As for me, perfection isn't my enemy, it is my sincere devotion and goal.

I feel this song represents us as we are, far from perfect. God loves us as we are, in Christ we are ( free to be me as the song says) There is only one who live perfectly. Perfection is our enemy in flesh for we will never be perfect here. We all have flaws and the world sees this, spiritually we can still be holy as our Lord and free from sin of this world. God wants his children to be happy and prosper. We all are special in his eyes. God gave us our own personalty, his purpose for us is his will. He has path the way for us, though we will be judged and persecuted by others when they don't understand. My spirit relates to this song and I have seen changes in others to reach up to God through this song. My nine year old grand daughter for one. Francesca is a vessel used by God. I say greater is he in her than he who is in the world.

Well, replace "20 years of age" with "60 years of age" the meaning is the same. I'm 63 and it fits me just fine! Hope you all can "figure it out" a lot sooner than i.
