Fall Out Boy
Bang The Doldrums lyrics

Songwriters: Trohman, Joe; Wentz, Pete; Eisold, Wesley; Hurly, Andrew; Stump, Patrick

I wrote a goodbye note
In lipstick on your arm
When you passed out
I couldn't bring myself to call
Except to call it quits

Best friends
Ex-friends til the end
Better off as lovers
And not other way around
Racing through the city
Windows down
In the back of
Yellow-checkered cars

You're wrong.
Are we all wrong?
You're wrong.
Are we all wrong?

This city says
Come hell or high water
When I'm feeling hot and wet
I can't commit to a thing
Be it heart or hospital

Best friends
Ex-friends til the end
Better off as lovers
And not other way around
Racing through the city
Windows down
In the back of
Yellow-checkered cars

You're wrong.
Are we all wrong?
You're wrong.
Are we all wrong?

The tombstones were waiting
They were half engraved
They knew it was over
Just didn't know the date

And I cast a spell over the west
To make you think of me
The same way I think of you
This is a love song
In my own way
Happily ever after
Below the waist

Best friends
Ex-friends til the end
Better off as lovers
Racing through the city
Windows down
In the back of
Yellow-checkered cars

You're wrong.
Are we all wrong?
You're wrong.
Are we all wrong?

Best friends
Ex-friends til the end
Better off as lovers
And not other way around
Ex-friends to the end
Better off as you're wrong

I'm not saying that anyone in the band is a sexual failure! I'm pretty sure they get laid plenty. haha. It's just a song, they're just weaving a story for us. It's not a given that they are talking about themselves! haha. Plus they always sing songs that hint at their own insecurity like What a catch Donnie's "I've got troubled thoughts and the self esteem to match" Just wanted to add that. I just realized that about their songs and wanted to work it out by writing about it. haha

its about him falling for his best friend. and his best friend rejecting him, and ending the friendship. "Best friends, Ex friends till the end, Better off as lovers, not the other way around." The first verse is him repeating what she said. "I wrote a goodbye note in lipstick on your arm when you passed out" (A guy wouldn't have lipstick. His best friend however would have had some.) "I couldn't bring myself to call except to call it quits" that was the note. She was calling it quits. Now he's a wreck and that's why he can't commit to anything. He's a wreck because he's still in love with her even if she left him. "I cast a spell over the west to make you think of me, the same way I think of you. This is a love song in my own way." Beautiful line. He still hopes that she will come back to him. Then the last line of the bridge is "Happily ever after below the waist" a masturbation reference. He was only happy below the waist. Not content all over as love would make him. This is a recurring theme in FOB songs. How the girl always doesn't like him back. Hence he's left to.. masturbate. Refer to Grand theft autumn and Nobody puts baby in the corner. In Nobody puts, there is a line that says "the hand behind this pen relieves a failure each day" take note. "Relieves" his sexual "failure". That song was basically about how he wants to be together with a girl. That's my interpretation. And definitely, Fall Out Boy's lyrics make sense. That's the beautiful thing about them, they invite you to think about what it really means. The subtext behind the words. At first glance they make no sense, but upon deeper analysis, the word play weaves a beautiful subtext. Thanks. I was just threshing out my own ideas by writing this. Nobody has to read it =>
