Refrain:
Wade in the Water
Wade in the Water, children
Wade in the Water
God's gonna trouble the Water

Who's that yonder dressed in red
Wade in the Water
Must be the Children that Moses led
And God's gonna trouble the Water

Refrain

Who's that yonder dressed in white
Wade in the Water
Must be the Children of the Israelites
God's gonna trouble the Water

Refrain

Who's that yonder dressed in blue
Wade in the Water
Must be Children that's coming through
And God's gonna trouble the Water

Refrain

If you don't believe I've been redeemed
Wade in the Water
Just see the holy ghost looking for me
God's gonna trouble the Water

Wade in the water is a spiritual song from the southern states, during the slavery times. This was for when slaves were trying to escape, and this song, sung during work hours, was basically directions to where to run.

A song for slaves to tell them how to get away and so that when they did
Get away the dogs and slave owners could not track them down if they followed the river because the sent would not be there.
