His eyes are locked on her,
Her eyes are fixed elsewhere,
He's confident, but he's not aware,
She doesn't care.
Their only connection, is the silence that they both grasp,
He's lost control, but she's not aware, of his stare.
Everything seems to intimidate him, with the strobe lights
Flashing, her body's jolting,
But cracking, as his eyes, spilt in two, if only she knew...
If only she knew,
If only,
If only she knew. [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/e/enter_shikari/anything_can_happen_in_the_next_half_hour.html ]
The curtain goes down, on him again?
The curtain goes down, on him again?
Everything seems to be closing in on her,
It feels just like she is being hunted,
But it's all right, it's all good,
Shes not aware, of his stare.
We've had this date from the beginning.
We've had this date from the beginning.
The curtain goes down, on him again?
The curtain goes down, on him again?
Who remains when the curtain falls?
Who remains when the curtain goes down...?
Who remains when the curtain falls?
Who remains when the curtain goes down...?

It's about a man who is about to rape a woman. The two voices - the singing and the "shouting" are two sides of his personality. It's one of those songs where people get the meaning mixed up - like every breath you take - it's about a stalker!

I think's it about a play called "a streetcar named desire" - the slightly confusing reference to this girl in the song is actually about two girls. The "curtain" is also a commonly used symbol in the play for how one of the women is protected from the man merely by a curtain. This women is then raped in the story, which is when the man says "we've had this date (with each other) from the beginning", and also one of the girls says "anything can happen" to talk about the man's poker night with his friends - which leads to chaos and later rape in the story. The strobe lights in the song are slightly confusing, but they could be to do with how lighting is described in the play and how a train often shines it's lights into the house which the play is set. Her body jolting could either be to do with the man's wife being beaten by him, or her sister being raped by him... Overall it's quite a grim story - makes a great song too :)
I completely agree with holly. He keeps trying to get her attention, but gets shut down every time he tries(the curtain goes down on him again). Or, maybe it is talking about him personally, and him being in the spotlight, and the girl thinks since he is the frontman for a band he will be an ass like a lot of them are. He is freaking about it because its like the first time someone has totally turned him down again and again.
I suppose the song is about a guy in love with a girl, but she's not really interested in him and doesnt know he feels. He loses control of himself and is desperate for her to know he feels.
