Emiliana Torrini – Gollum's Song lyrics
Where once was light
Now darkness falls
Where once was love
Love is no more

Don't say -- goodbye
Don't say -- I didn't try...

These tears we cry
Are falling rain
For all the lies
You told us
The hurt, the blame!

And we will weep
To be so alone
We are lost!
We can never go home

So in the end
I will be -- what I will be
No loyal friend
Was ever there for me

Now we say -- goodbye
We say -- you didn't try...

These tears you cry
Have come too late
Take back the lies
The hurt, the blame!

And you will weep
When you face the end alone
You are lost!
You can never go home

This a lament of total loneliness. Gollum's song interprets the despair of a creature who is utterly without the companionship of others. He is one who has committed fratricide for something that he couldn't keep. To what end? The soul-wrenching guilt stays with him for over 500 years while he holds the ring. That loneliness and guilt for having killed his brother warps and twists him until he no longer resembles that from which he came. Living for 500 years, having had his kin and all he knew turn to dust, he has no recollection of he days as one of the "river folk" (hobbit, maybe?). Sad. Totally without hope.

In the first verse, the depression shows plainly. "I used to be this, but I've turned into something worse."
He's also feeling regret, and slightly angry. When it says "don't say we didn't try", he's trying to tell you he tried his best not to be what he is (maybe even fight the rings power?).
In the end, though, it turns to mostly anger, resentment, hatred. He wishes upon the subject of the song the same fate that befell him. And maybe even he's telling himself "you are lost, you can never go home."
This is the very epitome of sadness, despair, and longing.

With the lyrics, "for all the lies you told us, the hurt the blame," I believe is referring to the lies the ring told Gollum. He gave up his happy life for the ring and he finds out that the ring is evil and it torments him. That's enough to make anyone upset.
