Dido – White Flag lyrics
(Part I)
I know you think that I shouldn't still love you
Or tell you that
But if I didn't say it
Well, I'd still have felt it
Where's the sense in that
?

(Part 2)
I promise I'm not trying to make your life harder
Or return to where we were

[Chorus:]
Well I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be

(Part 3)
I know I left too much mess and destruction to come back again
And I caused nothing but trouble
I understand if you can't talk to me again

And if you live by the rules of it's over
Then I'm sure that that makes sense

[Chorus:]
Well I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be

(Part 4)
And when we meet
Which I'm sure we will
All that was then
Will be there still
I'll let it pass
And hold my tongue
And you will think
That I've moved on

[Chorus:]
Well I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be

[Chorus:]
Well I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be

[Chorus:]
I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be

Actually, this song is a depressing one. Dido sung it with intense sadness in her tone. It meant she is still in love with her ex but she doesn't want to trouble him.
Part 4 says that even if they met on the streets, she would still have feelings for him. She won't talk about it so he wouldn't be affected by the fact that she has not moved on.
And she won't give up on love, despite the fact that she's been hurt.

While this song always moved me, I never closely studied the words before. It's back on the local Alt FM station rotation, and I sat in my car absorbing the pain yesterday, almost in disbelief at how apt the lyrics are to my variation of the universal theme. I'm seven decades invested in this life, and yet this resonates beyond the usual love song cliches. My love is for a woman nearly fifty years younger, who I'd bonded with in a rare and wondrous way over four months, as a surrogate father/mentor/confidant/co-counselor, not a lover, yet in an anxiety fueled tantrum, coming from deep in my own disfunctional history, I unleashed a cruel verbal outburst at her that shattered her trust in me. My abject apology was read, and her reply was earnest and heartbroken. Now, weeks of silence tell me she can't bear to consider forgiveness or reconciliation. She is young and naively has retreated into herself, not realizing that will scar and harden the wounds, when the only path any of us have to heal is to risk apologizing, forgiving the other, and seeing us all as flawed and imperfect humans who will keep making mistakes, over a lifetime, but have to keep putting our best selves out there regardless of how we get hurt, or far worse, how we inadvertently hurt those we love most. That this song perfectly conveys my greatest regret as well as young lover's partings shows the mysterious genius of great songs.

Tears. You can take this song so many ways, I have sung this likable tune for years, but having just bn contacted by my ex who accidentally and unforgivingly broke my heart and hav not had contact for 4years, tells me this song is for me. I had to relisten quite a few times b4 I understood. I always thought I was wanted gone and everybody in th world had moved on but me. I was wrong. I am in disbelief to know I am still thought of wn this song plays. Especially considering th player is usually a heavy metal

I believe dido is saying she fell inlove but then lost love, something she might have done. Or it could of been the other way but she true meaning is she's inlove with this person and will always be. I can relate to this song since I was a young girl, I'm 23yrs old now. This song has help me with alot of lusts, crushes, likes, fake love etc. An now its once again helping me realize my mistakes when it comes to falling for someone.
