Back to the beginning
Nowhere left to go
No-one is winning
Out there is darkness
Shadows all go home
The trees are all bowing their heads
A blank landscape face me
South stands the cross
South stands the cross
Sunset leaves the sky
The night closes in
It's time we were home [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/d/ddt/south_stands_the_cross.html ]
A beam of light passes
Through my mind
Then I see
A nothing landscape faces me
South stands the cross
South stands the cross
South stands
South stands
South stands the cross
South stands
South stands
South stands the cross
In our old positions
Starting once again
This time we might win
South stands the cross
South stands the cross
South stands the cross
This was written in january 1983. It is about being in a no-win situation -be it in life or in love. The cross is merely used as an allegory for something hanging over oneself, like the sword of damocles - no religious overtones should be inferred. I should know - i wrote it.
