I know I'll miss her later
Wish I could bend my love to hate her
Wish I could be her creator
To twist her arms now
She stares up at the stars when
The stars fell from her hair then
I bent down to collect them
And then she was gone
Oh, I sleep just to dream her
I beg the night just to see her
That my only love should be her
Just to lie in her arms
Oh, I came there to find out
Find out she'd made up her mind, oh
My arms are all tied up
To me she was blind [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/d/dave_matthews_band/sleep_to_dream_her.html ]
This space between us
Where wingless dreams fall earless
Will you not bear me witness
With your back to me now
It seemed so unnerving
Still somehow deserving
That she could hold my heart so tightly
And still not see me here, oh
Oh, I sleep just to dream her
Beg the night just to see her
That my only love should be her
Just to lie in her arms
I know I'll miss her later
Wish I could bend my love to hate her
Wish I could be her creator
To be the light in her eyes
I think this song is about a boy who knows that the one girl that meant more to him then any other girl, he knows now that he should have never let her go. He knows that it was his one fatal mistake so he tries to go back, go back to that time of when he was lost in her green eyes and her honeysuckle deep hair, he goes back to the time of when life felt so right. But he finally woke up from his dream of her and now he has to pick up the pieces of where he left off. He has to go back to his burning city of where it all began, he has to find her, he has to find her heart, and this time he can't lose her in the lust of people. When he finds her she is faced with a decision of whether to go with him, go back to someone who she has loved for so long but has finally decided to let go and redeem her heart, or stay with somebody who has finally made her feel safe. So who should she chose the boy that made her finally know the meaning of real the meaning of true, who gave her the world, who would always break her fall, who found her other heart, or should she stay right where she is with someone that didn't let her go or take her for granted loves her for and is her protector, her best friend. Who does she choose? See the decision is up to her and now the tables are turned and he is waiting for her, her five words that could change the fate of their lives forever. But she finally decides with her heart and her heart speaks and it says, "what took you so long? " and he says, this man standing in front of her who is so much more strong and worthy than she's ever seen, " i was waiting for those gray skies to turn blue, and they did, i was hoping, i was hoping, and i have always carried your heart in my heart and i always will, i don't want to dream you anymore. "
