Coldplay – 42 lyrics
Those who are dead are not dead
They're just living my head
And since I fell for that spell
I am living there as well
Oh...

Time is so short and I'm sure
There must be something more

Those who are dead are not dead
They're just living my head oh...
And since I fell for that spell
I am living there as well oh...

Time is so short and I'm sure
There must be something more

You thought you might be a ghost
You thought you might be a ghost
You didn't get to heaven but you made it close
You didn't get to heaven but you made it close

You thought you might be a ghost
You thought you might be a ghost
You didn't get to heaven but you made it close
You didn't get to heaven but you oh oh
Oh oh...

Those who are dead are not dead
They're just living my head
Oh...

The title '42' is probably a reference to douglas adams' 'hitchhikers guide to the galaxy', which states that the answer to the ultimate question about life, the universe and everything is '42'. The trick, of course, is to know what the ultimate question actually is. The song is asking what the nature of death and the afterlife might be and thus seek some meaning to our corporeal existance by seeking reasurance that death itself is not and end; that there is something far more enlightening to follow or experience, as our earthly existence is not long enough and provides insufficient clues as to the meaning of life. Perhaps! :)

My favorite part is when he says "You didn't get to heaven but you oh oh oh oh" I love how the song starts out all mellow, then halfway through it gets faster and that just makes this song so awesome. Also they might be making a monty python reference, beause the song is called 42, and I'm pretty sure that whole "the meaning of life is 42" joke came from monty python, and the fact that coldplay and monty python are both british makes it a bit more likely that they would have done something like that than if they weren't both british. Anyway it makes me think of that because this song is about life and death and almost getting to heaven and ghosts. Not to say that this song is funny though.
