When you get hurt, especially by a family member... You tend to have trust issues off the bat as you enter your first adult relationships. Having a ''broken'' relationship with the one person you should have been able to trust with your life, forever alters you in many ways. Being the victim of a failed parental-child type relationship, left me to feel very suspcious and scared of nearly everyone & their motives.
As un-trusting as i became of ppl, as i grew into a young woman, i found myself seeking solace, protection & trust in the opposite sex where i failed to find it in my life before.
This song has special meaning to me b/c it's very personal on so many levels.
I am blessed to have my husband of nearly 20 yrs & thankfully, he turned out to be my best friend, collegue, lover & partner in crime.
Don't the worst experiences make the most amazing songs? It's nice to know your not alone and that someone understands how you feel. Love alone is scary, unpredictable as well as completely necissary to live a full and happy life.
My apologies for the long post, but i had to express my thoughts on this song. I'm sure it hit home with many as it did with me. To hear an artist sing with so much truth & passion, no way this performance wasn't an honest rendition of true past events. But, you don't have to relate to it as personally as i did to enjoy it.
