I think pete actually commits to making love with a woman because he believes this is the woman he intends to spend the rest of his life with. (bed of angels) unfortunately, he makes a mistakes and later realizes that the woman is not for him. He uses the devil to explain why such a mistake could have been made. He also uses the pinata analogy to describe how the woman was able to read the author and gain her way into the lustful romance.

In the last album pete thanked his wife & girlfriend... Maybe this is him letting the gf know he messed up & she was lucky to have him!! I love pete, sam & dean such a good song, pete has such deep thoughts though so no telling what he was thinking when he wrote this one!

Sounds like a guy trying to get with a girl but he decided it wasn't quite worth the extra effort. Sometimes its just not worth playing the game.
