Ten years ago, I got a call that nearly killed me
Repeat yourself, my hands are shaking
When I was told, my friend was gone I felt so guilty
A thousand questions left unanswered

I'll bleed if you want me to!
I'll serenade before I do
I'll bleed if you want me, to!

On and on although you're gone, candles burn without a flame on
Our final call to you, I know you're listening
How could you leave us that way?
Where did you go? (ten years today!)

Ten years ago, I stood beside the wood that held you
I must sit down, my legs are shaking
We let you go, with gifts and presents for your journey
And melodies to help you on your way

I'll bleed if you want me to!
I'll serenade before I do
I'll bleed if you want me, to!

On and on although you're gone, candles burn without a flame on
Our final call to you, I know you're listening
How could you leave us that way?
Where did you go? (ten years today!)

Wh-oh-ah!
Wh-oh-ah!
Wh-oh-ah!

I'll bleed, if you want me to (I'll bleed if you want me to!)
I'll bleed if you want me, to!

On and on although you're gone, candles burn without a flame on
Our final call to you, I know you're listening
How could you leave us that way?
Where did you go? (ten years today!)
Where did you go? (ten years today!)
Where did you go?

How could you leave us that way?
Where did you go? (ten years today!)

Someone, a friend he really cherished, has died rather unexpectedly (I assume suicide, from the line 'How could you leave us that way?'), and he can't believe it. He attends the funeral, and obviously believes the friend hoped everyone would feel guilty and feel bad about themselves ('I'll bleed if you want me to'). He's remember that day ten years afterwards.

This is a about a friend of Matt's who killed himself. I could be mistaken but I think its the same friend who inspired the bands final name, after 6 pints of my girlfriends blood and Jeff killed John. If its the same friend he actually shot himself on Valentines Day over a girl. Hence, Bullet for my Valentine. Matt wrote the song because ten years later, this was released roughly ten years after the event, they formed in 97 I think, been a while. He constantly has this friend on his mind, as anyone would. So he wrote this song and kind of dedicated the band to him IMO with the line "with gifts of plectrums for your journey" and there is a couple more on there. This is info I've gathered over years of being a Bullet fan. It could all be publicity bullshit but I doubt it.
