Beatles – Julia lyrics

Half of what I say is meaningless
But I say it just to reach you, Julia

Julia, Julia, oceanchild, calls me
So I sing a song of love, Julia
Julia, seashell eyes, windy smile, calls me
So I sing a song of love, Julia

Her hair of floating sky is shimmering, glimmering
In the sun

Julia, Julia, morning moon, touch me
So I sing a song of love, Julia

When I cannot sing my heart
I can only speak my mind, Julia

Julia, sleeping sand, silent cloud, touch me
So I sing a song of love, Julia
Hum hum hum hum... Calls me
So I sing a song of love for Julia, Julia, Julia

On July 15th, 1958 Julia Lennon, John's mother, was killed in a car accident. She was hit by a car when she was walking home after paying a visit to her sister Mimi. John was mainly raised by his aunt Mimi, but as a teen he had a good relationship with his mother. She taught him how to play the banjo and shared a great interest in music with John. Julian Lennon, John's first son, was named after her.
The song Julia is a tribute to John's mother, just like let it be is a tribute to Paul's mother who also died at a very young age.
