I think this is hard to find the meaning / message of this song; it's not a very long song at all. "momma take this badge off of me, I can't use it anymore." She's probably singing about her heart is giving out or something like that. "Fell I'm knocking' on heavens door." This part here for sure probably mean she's dieing I guess, and so does 'That long black cloud is coming down." Giving up is the way to go, you can't live forever, but you can live for a long time.
