I fought it for a long time now
While drowning in a river of denial
I washed up, fixed up, picked up
All my broken things

'Cause you left me
Police tape, chalk line
Tequila shots
In the dark scene of the crime
Suburban living with a feeling
That I'm giving up
Everything for you
(For you)

Oh, oh, oh
How was I supposed to know
That you were oh, oh, over me?
I think that I should go
(Go! )
And something's telling me to leave
But I won't
'Cause I'm damned if I do ya
Damned if I don't

It took a lot to take you home
One stupid call
And I end up alone
You're made up, dressed up, messed up
Plans I set in stone

But you made me do when I don't,
Like, dancing in the alley
With the street-rat, nightlife
Can't keep living with a feeling
That I'm giving up
Everything for you
(For you)

Oh, oh, oh
How was I supposed to know
That you were oh, oh, over me?
I think that I should go
(Go! )
And something's telling me to leave
But I won't
'Cause I'm damned if I do ya
Damned if I...

Don't make a fool of myself
When you hang around
When you're gone
I'm a match that's burning out
Could have been, should have done
What I said I was going to do
(Said that I would do)
But I never promised you
(But I never promised you)
(Promised you, promised you)

Oh, oh, oh
How was I supposed to know
That you were oh, oh, over me?
I think that I should go
(Go! )
Never took a fool
To see the things that I won't
'Cause I'm damned if I do ya
Damned if I do ya

Oh, oh, oh
('Cause you left me)
How was I supposed to know
(Police scene, chalk line)
That you were oh, oh, over me?
(Tequila shots)
I think that I should go
(In the dark scene of the crime)
And something's telling me to leave
But I won't
'Cause I'm damned if I do ya
Damned if I d-d-d-
Damned if I do ya
Damned if I don't

DAMNED IF I DO HER DAMNED IF I DON'T

Why is he damned if he does her?
In the first stanza, he's just gotten over his denial that his girlfriend is over him (Evidenced by the fifth line "Cuz you left me")

He is ready to move on (As he has picked up all his broken things, probably the shattered pieces of his psyche as all kids this age feel when they break-up)

A possible interpretation for the break-up is his lifestyle. He can't fathom "Suburban living" "The feeling that I'm giving up everything for you" and will be damned if he stays with her.

Why is he damned if he doesn't do her?
He still wants to be with her even after the fact. If he doesn't do her (do her can mean the literal, or it can also mean to stay committed to the relationship) then he will have to face the facts that the relationship is over (evidenced by "Somethings telling me to leave but I won't) He still wants to be with her (When you're gone, I'm a match that's burning out)

    OVERALL:
He can't stay with her because she wants to settle down and have the typical married lifestyle. He rebukes her and says he can't give up his lifestyle, so she dumps him. He can't fathom this and goes through the whole how can she be over me so quickly. He clearly is not over her and the song is his battle over what he should do, go back on his earlier word and try to win her back, or just give up and be without her... damned if he does her, damned if he doesn't!

Very catchy. Don't know what it's about exactly, but the video shows that he has an affair with his teacher... so that would mean that he's damned if he does her, cause it's illeagal, but damned if he doesn't cause they're in love.

there pretty much saying that he liked her and he worked so hard to get with her, but he didnt kno she was over him, and hes damned if he stays with her, and damned if he breaks up with her(meaning he would get hurt either way).

For me, it means that he wants her back.. And his asking her if she's over him and he would regret if he didn't try

Very very very catchy song! I absolutely love it! The song is basically about this guy being in love with this girl, the problem is that she wants to settle down and have a surburban lifestyle, while he still wants to live wild and free. He's saying damne if i do ya meaning he'll be doing something he doesnt want to, and damned if i don't because he loves this girl soo much! Awesome song all time low! Heart jack and the video clip!! :{)
