Alesana – The Thespian lyrics
Baby! Why are you doing this to me?
Sweetheart! Are those your eyes staring straight back at me?
Angel! I see your smile everywhere!
Darling! Stop!

Night falls and I'm running in circles
I'm being chased by my imagination

Tell me I'm forgiven say you'll always be mine
Say that everything is over, tell me I'm fine...
No one deserves to live like this! (x2)

I touch your lips and stare in your eyes
You smile and it makes me fly
You are the reason my heart beats
Tonight it's just you and me...

Night as dark as my thoughts sets the scene for my return
Lightning nips at my heels as I race home
Wearily I stagger towards the song of her pale voice
Demons jeer my attempt to be free

Tell me I'm forgiven say you'll always be mine
Say that everything is over, tell me I'm fine...
No one deserves to live like this! (x2)

I touch your lips and stare in your eyes
You smile and it makes me fly
You are the reason my heart beats
Tonight it's just you and me...

Windows cast her gentle reflection
Her somber silhouette dances for me
Dear God, it's her!

Look at you, you miserable fool!
Get off your knees, your prayers fall upon deaf ears
Gods turned his back on you, heavens gates are shut
And now you're knocking on the devils door

I've been expecting you for some time, sir
Allow me to introduce myself
I'm the one who pulls on all the strings, son
You're lucky I don't kill you where you stand!

This can't be real
Tonight I raise my glass
There's nothing left
For I know it's time to move on
All hope has failed
My patience will not last
I've lost my soul
Tomorrow I will be gone

"As the sun sets, the Artist cannot seem to escape his own imagination. Completely lost in self-indulgence, he begins to see Annabel's face everywhere. The visions of her usher his wandering, delusional thoughts back to the day when he first fell in love with her. He soon becomes obsessed with the fantasy that she could possibly still be alive. The Artist scrambles home in a hastened fury only to be stopped dead in his tracks at his front porch by a man who introduces himself as the Thespian--the man who killed Annabel."

This is a tragic tale of loving and losing. A man loves this woman and the woman dies (more than likely murdered). He keeps his love with him as if he can't grasp the fact that she is gone forever. The devil (aka: the thespian) comes up and makes a deal with him to bring her back. She comes back to life and everything is fine until she decides to kill the man she once loved and she ends up with the 'thespian'.

The artist is being haunted by the recurring image of annabel, to the point where he meanders to her death bed. From there, her ghost reveals the man who actually killed her: the thespian. This man is psycho, but he will spare the artist's life if he runs off. But the artist craves vengeance. And so he vows to murder the thespian and then take his own life, so that he may join annabel. In my
opinion, yes the artist is a psychopath, but throughout his dilusions, he still has a deep passion and care for his annabel.

This song is song 6 from the album and is about chapter six of the story on wich the album is based. In this chapter (i bought the album including the little book) the artist is running around in the city. He sees annabel's reflection everywhere but doesn't know how to stop it. He is thinking about the man who escaped the tavern the night before, right after he murdered 7 innocent people. He is thinking about leaving this world and never couming back. He is alone crying in some field when he sees some man approaching him. Its the man who he saw the night before in the tavern. He started to play with something wich seemed to be the knive the artist saw the night annabel died. That was the moment the artist realised this was the man who killed his love.
Hope this can help you guys ^^

Here is my interpretation, however jumbled it may be:.
~ I believe the meaning of this song is that the character portrayed through this song has lost the love of his life, the light that has guided him through the darkness for so long. He is constantly seeing her wherever he goes, seeing her face, and crying all the while. After realizing that her "somber silhouette" is nothing but a memory, he falls into what has been pulling him for the whole of his life, hell. The line, "i've been expecting you for some time, sir. " suggests that the entity that leads this hell, has had an envoy watching for the slightest chance to bring him into hell. The stanza, "you miserable fool... Knocking on the devil's door," would be what the envoy, the demon would say to him in order to draw him from this earth. When the protagonist's loved one dies, he is dragged into a hellish paradise at the devil's feet. Ultimately, without her in his life, he is to be dragged into hell to live the rest of his miserable, grief-stricken life in agony, but not agony from the pain that the devil can and will cause him, no. From the pain of losing his other half. ~
I hope I didn't confuse anyone with my interpretation. If so, respond back with what part of it confused you and I will attempt to explain.

This song reminds me of how I'm chasing for someone I love. I tell him ever day but he wont listen. I keep chasing him. One day I going to give up there going to wish you caught me. Are me words not good enough? I write him poems everday. But its just not enough. I feel as though I'm letting the wrong side of me out. The darkness is keeping me away as I lead to another heeart break I just want to let you know connor I love you. For you are my ocean you are my sea you are everything to me. I wont give up.

I think it's about being insanely in-love with a person and them loveing you too but you love(d) them so much that it drove you insane. And when you lost them, you cracked. You went on a kiling spree and killed everyone in the tavern (bar) to relinquish the pain and you find yourself writing their name on the floor missing them and longing for them. And then he starts seeing her as a ghost and the ghost, the person he was longing for so very bad kills him in the attempt to make things right and causing him to realize what he had done and what he had been doing all this time. (realisticly in the real world.) but not realizing that it stopped nothing and that the evil in this world will only spread from the killing of him for so many people follow and copy those people in the attempt to try to be sane and belong somewhere in this world of never ending pain and suffering and tears. And making them follow the foot-steps, of those who they were stupidly following, even more violently if not more physcotically.

The story of the madness that the artist sinks into after waking to find his lover annabel dead is a crazy tale that I think alesana beautifully created into this song. When I first heard it I had no clue what I was about but I liked it now that I've found out what it is based on I love it even more. I can't wait to hear more songs like this from alesana on the future :)

Annabel opens her eyes and finds herself trapped inside a coffin. As she suffers this torturing bedlam, she cries out for The Artist and hopes that the sound of her voice could reach his miserable heart. Sadly, The Artist could not sense Annabel's desperate longing for him for he had been sinking into severe lunacy. He had been manipulated by The Thespian, an unknown invincible presence provoking and motivating him to sever every innocent life present as he sits torpid at the isolated tavern. Every wicked whisper the thespian makes, anguishes the Artist's every nerve slowly bringing him into complete madenss. But Annabel's love resists to surrender. Despite her weakening tears, still she desires The Artist to return and be in her arms again. As the disasterous night passes, she gazes upon her lover strangling her on the floor. She had never been so pained and frightened ever before. Without any other recourse she reaches for the dagger beside her and stabs The Artist. He laid beside Annabel. And it was only then when The Artist realized that the horrible creature he hed been chasing all this while never really existed. His sickened imagination was blind to see that this so called thespian was a mere distortion of his dearest love. Annabel.

The story is more complex than that. But it is an amazing one. It's based on Edgar Allan Poe's last poem "Annabel Lee".
The central character of the story, a sketch artist known simply as "The Artist" wakes up one day to find his lover, Annabel, dead, laying next to him. Heartbroken and terrified, he buries her in his basement and flees. He wanders aimlessly until he comes to a tavern, where he hears the sounds of merriment and laughter. He decides that if he can't be happy no one can and slaughters everyone in the tavern. After wandering through many places and finding Annabel's killer, "The Thespian", at the end of the story The Artist finally comes face to face with him to fight to the death. He is stabbed in his side with a dagger and finds himself in a room with Annabel holding a dagger in hand. From here on the story's point of view switches from The Artist to Annabel where she explains that The Artist had slowly been sinking into madness all this while, as he became more and more withdrawn and his sketches more and more violent. Though she loved him, in the end she had to take his life in the attempt to defend herself from him.

"as the sun sets I couldn't escape from my own imagination. Lost in self-indulgence I began to see annabel's face everywhere.
The visions of her brought me back to my wondering, delusional thoughts and back to the day I first fell in love with her.
I soon began to fantasize about how she could possibly be alive. I became obsessed with the fantasy.
I ran home in a hastened fury only to be stopped dead in my tracks at my front porch by a man. I looked at the man. I know that I have seen his face before, but I couldn't remember from where.
Who was he? What is he doing at my house?
He looked back at me and with a low sinister voice he said "sorry to disrupt you sir but let me introduce myself to you. I am the thespian. Or in other words, i am the man who killed your beloved annabel. "

Lololol, Seriously, what a bunch of posers the people that comment are. "I don't know what it means, but OMG ILOVETHEM." "The singer dude!" They have names, man. Anyway, Ralvlpage is right about the lyrics. Alesana's new cd is kind of a concept album that follows a character.
Going crazy by seeing Annabel's face everywhere, The Artist runs out of town and ends up in his front yard. He notices a man with a knife standing on his front porch who confesses that he's the one who killed Annabel. Now this is where The Artist regrets what he has done.
