Don't know what to do anymore
I've lost the only love worth fighting for
I'll drown in my tear storming sea
That would show you, that would make you hurt like me

All the same
I don't want mudslinging games
It's such a shame
To let you walk away

Is there a chance?
A fragment of light at the end of the tunnel?
A reason to fight?
Is there a chance you may change your mind?
Or are we ashes and wine?

Don't know if our fate's already sealed
This day's spinning circus on a wheel
I'm I'll with the thought of your kiss
Coffee laced intoxicating on her lips

Shut it out
I've got no claim on you now
Not allowed to wear your freedom down

Is there a chance?
A fragment of light at the end of the tunnel?
A reason to fight?
Is there a chance you may change your mind?
Or are we ashes and wine?

I'll tear myself away
If that is what you need
There is nothing left to say
But

Is there a chance?
A fragment of light at the end of the tunnel?
A reason to fight?
Is there a chance you may change your mind?
Or are we ashes and wine?
Reduced ashes and wine
Or are we ashes?

This song is about a couple breaking up, and they feel lost without each other. Time goes on and they find other people, but they always remember what they had. It ends with both of them wanting to be with each other, but they are already with other people and feel as if it is to late to be together. This was what my boyfriend always told me before he dumped me.

When I read the lyrics I thought about my pain and all bad things I've past because of a boy that doesn't love me even I could give everything to see him happy. It hurts, but doesn't matter! I believe this song is about a story like mine. A forbidden and impossible love between "ashes and wine".
    P. S.: I'm brazilian, so I'm not sure about my writing. Forgive my mistakes!

I can relate to this song very much. My girlfriend just broke up with me today. I really don't know what to do anymore. I am so used to having her here by my side. Now she's gone, I forgot what I was doing with my life before her. I can't help but hope for another chance for us even though she clearly stated that it's impossible. She says she still loves me. I wish she could just stay. We would go on our separate ways, and I wouldnt have control on her. I don't have the right to get mad if she goes out with someone. I don't have the right to ask where she is. I don't have the right to stop her if she's already drinking too much. She's my light at the end of the tunnel, the reason to fight.

I believe this song is about a girl who is in love with a guy who has shown interest or possible feelings but she knows he wont change his mind but is hoping for a chance that is why she asks that question, I believe the metaphor of Ashes and Wine is ashes is an end product to fire and wine symbolizes the drunkeness of love and desperation and high you feel when you drink wine.
