Got on board a westbound seven forty-seven
Didn't think before deciding what to do
Ooh, that talk of opportunities, TV breaks and movies
Rang true, sure rang true ...

Seems it never rains in southern California
Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before
It never rains in California, but girl, don't they warn ya?
It pours, man, it pours

I'm out of work, I'm out of my head
Out of self respect, I'm out of bread
I'm underloved, I'm underfed, I wanna go home
It never rains in California, but girl, don't they warn ya?
It pours, man, it pours

Will you tell the folks back home I nearly made it?
Had offers but didn't know which one to take
Please don't tell 'em how you found me
Don't tell 'em how you found me
Gimme a break, give me a break

Seems it never rains in southern California
Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before
It never rains in California, but girl, don't they warn ya?
It pours, man, it pours

This song reminds me of the best years of my life... When i was broke, and happy. Listening to great music, singing along to the radio while we had house parties, not with caviar and champagne, but with beer, cheap wine and potato chips.

It rarely rains in southern california- in the summertime, but when the rains come, in the winter, it often pours. This is a perfect analogy to the false glitz of hollywood, and how it entices the newcomer, with the promise of prosperity.

Opportunities are there but you need luck because there are many looking for the same thing (dreams) in the same place.

Dude left N.Y & went to Ca looking to get in the movies. But never got a break & was down on his luck living on the street. A lady he knew from NY saw him and he begged her not to tell the people he knew in NY about how he was living. "Give me a break"
