EXPLANATION
There were probably more like 40 people in the caravan that they would have traveled in. The wise men had been traveling 2 years before they would see the Christ Child for the first time.
EXPLANATION
There would have been more than one caravan. The magi or wise men traditionally came from three different areas of the world, Persia (known from 1980 as the Islamic Republic of Iran), India and Arabia. The Bible does not say how many people arrived to visit the Christ Child, but lists the three gifts symbolizing His kingship (gold), divinity (frankincense) and ultimate death (myrrh). Because of these three gifts it became the convention to refer only to three wise men.
EXPLANATION
It must have taken ages to get to where Jesus was, and to also go back to Herod and again so something's wrong with this story. Realistically, for three men to come from a country far away it would take ages.
